Editorial Guidelines

These guidelines set out the standards for content published by London Chronicle. They apply to news articles, headlines, images and other editorial material, including content prepared with artificial intelligence or automated tools.

Accuracy and verification

Our aim is to publish accurate, clear and relevant information. Facts, names, dates, figures and quotations should be checked against reliable sources before publication.

Unverified claims, estimates and developing information must be clearly identified. Where important details remain uncertain, the article should explain those limitations.

Sources and attribution

Reporting should draw on credible sources, with preference given to original documents, official records, direct statements and other primary material where available.

Information obtained from another publication or organisation should be attributed appropriately. Quotations must accurately reflect the source’s words and context. Sources, interviews and eyewitness accounts must never be invented.

Articles must accurately describe the reporting undertaken by London Chronicle.

Fairness and context

Coverage should provide enough context for readers to understand the story. Facts, allegations and opinions must be clearly distinguished.

When reporting serious allegations, reasonable efforts should be made to obtain a response from the person or organisation concerned. Relevant responses should be represented fairly. An allegation must not be presented as an established fact.

Editorial independence and commercial content

Editorial decisions should be guided by accuracy, public interest and relevance to readers.

Advertising, sponsored articles and paid partnerships must be clearly labelled. Relevant commercial relationships or conflicts of interest should be disclosed so readers can assess the content appropriately.

Originality and respect for others’ work

Third-party reporting must be credited where it informs our coverage. Text, photographs, video and other material must be used with appropriate permission, a suitable licence or another lawful basis.

Rewriting or processing material with AI does not remove the need to respect copyright and attribution requirements.

Use of artificial intelligence

AI may assist with drafting, summarising, translation, editing and publishing. Content prepared with these tools remains subject to the same editorial standards as other material.

AI must not be used to fabricate facts, quotations, sources or reporting. London Chronicle retains responsibility for its published content. Further information is provided in our AI Notice.

Headlines, images and presentation

Headlines and summaries must accurately reflect the article. They should not exaggerate findings or create a misleading impression.

Images and captions should reflect their context accurately. AI-generated visuals, reconstructions and illustrative material must be clearly identified where readers could otherwise mistake them for authentic records of an event.

Privacy and sensitive reporting

Reporting should balance the public interest with respect for privacy and dignity. Particular care should be taken when covering children, vulnerable people, victims of crime, bereavement and traumatic events.

Unnecessary personal details and gratuitously graphic material should be avoided.

Corrections and updates

Significant factual errors should be corrected promptly once confirmed. Material corrections should be clearly acknowledged, and developing stories should be updated when reliable new information becomes available.

Readers can raise concerns by contacting London Chronicle with the article’s web address, details of the issue and any supporting evidence.

Review of these guidelines

These guidelines may be updated as our editorial practices, publishing tools and coverage develop.
